Could you get money back from past purchases? Democratic lawmakers want retailers and shippers to refund shoppers for Trump-era tariffs that the courts ruled illegal. This could save consumers billions. But the big question is, will businesses pass along the savings, or keep the cash?
Many of these tariffs were specifically on things like basic necessities, including clothing and electronics, that driving up costs for hardworking families. Now, those retailers might get that money back, However, whether people will see lower prices remains to be seen.
Essentially, the ball is now in the retailers’ court. They can refund the money people overpaid. Or they could keep it for themselves.
